How to Install Minecraft Forge on Your Server

Step-by-step guide to installing Minecraft Forge on your server. Set up Forge for modded Minecraft hosting on CraftNodes with the Pterodactyl panel.

What Is Forge?

Minecraft Forge is the most widely used mod loader, powering the majority of large modpacks. Installing Forge on your server lets players with the same Forge version and mods connect and play together.

Step 1: Download the Forge Installer

Go to files.minecraftforge.net and download the installer for your desired Minecraft version. Choose the recommended version unless you need a specific one for your modpack.

Step 2: Upload the Forge Server JAR

In the Pterodactyl panel, set your server egg to Forge, or upload the Forge universal JAR manually if your panel supports custom JARs.

Step 3: Upload Your Mods

Create a mods folder in your server directory and upload all mod JAR files. Make sure all players have the same mods installed on their clients.

Step 4: Allocate Enough RAM

Forge with mods needs significantly more RAM than vanilla. Check the modpack's recommended RAM allocation and make sure your CraftNodes plan meets it.

Step 5: Accept the EULA and Start

Edit eula.txt and set eula=true. Then start your server from the Pterodactyl panel. First startup takes longer as Forge sets up.
