Why Backups Are Non-Negotiable
Server crashes, corrupted worlds, accidental deletions, and grief — any of these can destroy hours or months of player work. Backups are your safety net. Without them, a single bad restart can wipe your world permanently.
Types of Backups
- Full server backups — A complete copy of all server files including world, plugins, and configs
- World-only backups — Just the world folder, faster to create and smaller in size
- Plugin data backups — Specific plugin storage like CoreProtect logs or economy data
Setting Up Automated Backups on CraftNodes
- Go to the Backups tab in your Pterodactyl panel
- Create a scheduled backup — daily is recommended
- Set a retention limit (e.g. keep 7 backups)
- You can also run backups manually before major changes
Restoring a Backup
Click the three-dot menu next to any backup in the Pterodactyl panel and choose Restore. Stop your server first, restore the backup, then start again.
Off-Site Backups
For extra safety, periodically download a backup copy to your local computer. Use the download option in the Pterodactyl Backups tab.
