Minecraft World Pre-Generation: Prevent Lag from New Chunk Loading

What Is World Pre-Generation?

When players explore new areas of your Minecraft world, the server has to generate those chunks on the fly. This is CPU and disk-intensive and causes lag spikes. Pre-generating the world before players join eliminates this problem.

Chunky Plugin

Chunky is the best pre-generation plugin for Paper servers. It is fast, supports multiple worlds, shows progress, and can resume if the server restarts.

Installation

1. Download Chunky from Hangar or SpigotMC
2. Upload to your plugins folder
3. Restart the server

Pre-Generating Your World

Run these commands in the console:

/chunky radius 5000
/chunky start

This pre-generates all chunks within 5000 blocks of spawn. Adjust the radius to your world border size.

How Long Does It Take?

Pre-generation time depends on world size and hardware. CraftNodes NVMe Gen 4 storage makes chunk generation significantly faster than hosts with SATA SSDs. A 5000-block radius typically takes 10-30 minutes.

When to Pre-Generate

Pre-generate during server setup before players join, or during planned maintenance. Use /chunky pause and /chunky continue if needed.
